LOIS STUART WOOD

Oct. 18, 1924-July 2, 2014

Lois Annette Stuart Wood, 89, was welcomed into her heavenly home Wednesday morning to be with her Lord and savior, and to join her family and friends awaiting her there. She was at Kitty Askins Hospice Center when she received this wonderful gift.

Lois was born Oct. 18, 1924, in St. Petersburg, Fla., to the late Walter Leonard and Winnie Leach Stuart. She was the wife of the late Rev. Sam Wood.

Lois was a resident of the Sterling House in Goldsboro and a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church.

She had worked as a teacher's assistant for the Wayne County Public School System.

Being a pastor's wife, she had served as the pianist at numerous churches during Rev. Wood's 56 years of ministry. Much of her life was spent playing the piano, a God-given talent that she loved very much.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church, with pastor Doug Johnson and pastor Alice Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Burial will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Lois is survived by two daughters, Glenna Ham and husband, Allen, of Hookerton and Paula Kennison and husband, Danny, of Asheville; three grandchildren, Mary Ann Braswell, Karen McGlamery and Allison Brown; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Stuart, and a grandson, Christopher Waters.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be sent to the music ministry at your home church or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Wood family, and online condolences may be expressed at www.shumate-faulk.com.
