Feb. 14, 1932-March 30, 2014

Janie Sanders Woodard, 82, Goldsboro, passed away peacefully into that far better life with her Lord and savior Sunday morning while a resident of Waltonwood Senior Living in Cary.

Janie was born in Nash County Feb. 14, 1932, to the late Luther B. Sanders Sr. and Nellie Christine Sanders. She was married to the late George Vernon Woodard, who preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1994.

Janie worked as a bookkeeper for Wayne County Public Schools, retiring in 1995.

Following retirement, Janie began volunteering at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

She was a devoted member of New Hope United Methodist Church.

A service celebrating Janie's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at New Hope United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Steve Wellman, the Rev. Jerry Mitchell and Bill Garner officiating. Private entombment will be in the mausoleum at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will greet friends Saturday following the service in the fellowship hall.

Janie is survived by her sons, Dr. George Michael Woodard and wife, Susan, of Apex and Marshall "Mark" Woodard and wife, Beth, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Brian Woodard, Anna Woodard, Danny Woodard, George Woodard and Fiona Woodard; sister, Frances Furtek of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Janie was preceded in death by her brother, L.B. Sanders Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to New Hope United Methodist Church, 200 E. New Hope Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
