MOUNT OLIVE -- Dorothy Mae Stevens McKinzey, 90, died Jan. 15, 2014.

Funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at 7 p.m. at West and Dunn Funeral Home chapel in Newton Grove, with the Rev. Frank Purvis officiating.

The family will receive friends following the funeral service in the funeral home chapel.

Entombment will be at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Frances "Frankie" and Russell Spain Jr. of Greenville; son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Eva McKinzey of Methuen, Mass.; son and special friend, Raymond McKinzey and Judy Hinston of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Michael Grady, Jay and Ryan Jordan, Vicky O'Brien and Dieter and Harald Kirschner; five great-grandchildren, Mark and Brianna Jordan and McKinzey, Sarah and Samantha O'Brien; a sister, Nellie Irene Maides of New Bern; brothers, Ronald Earl Stevens of Grantham and Billy Levoy Stevens of Four Oaks; and special friends, Debbie and Dennis Purdy of Grantham and Verna Mae Keene of Grantham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Jessie McKinzey, and her parents, Ither and Anna Stevens.

Mother was a longtime member of Eureka Christian Church, and served as the pianist and/or organist for 40-plus years.

She was an active member of Woodman of the World for more than 25 years.

One of her favorite pastimes was working in her yard. If you ever passed Mother's house, you would see her in the yard picking up pine cones.

She enjoyed playing senior games, and was the proud winner of numerous gold medals.

We enjoyed her music, and she won first place in the talent show on a cruise ship.

She was the pianist for Westbrook Senior Center.

She was very talented and enjoyed arts and crafts, including quilting and crocheting.

She was an excellent cook.

She was the heart and soul of our family, and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
