MOREHEAD CITY -- A. Wade Blackford Sr., 94, Morehead City, peacefully passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, at Harborview Health Care Center.

"Wait a minute" Wade was born July 1, 1919, in Arlington, Va.

He was a decorated World War II veteran, and successful businessman in Corsicana, Texas, before moving to the Crystal Coast about 20 years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Crow Blackford; three children, Wade Jr. (Linbe), Anna Zier and Woody; grandchildren, Mallory Leonard (Darin), Capt. Connor Zier (Angela), Virginia Thomas (Gregg) and Sashell Blackford; and stepchildren, Billy Cook and Anitra Crow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to Paralyzed Veterans of America, P.O. Box 758532, Topeka, Kan., 66675-8532, or Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan., 66675.

A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church, 201 E. Fort Macon Road, Atlantic Beach, N.C., Thursday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m. His ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
