Mr. Leon Daniel Best, 94, 105 S. Georgia Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., departed his earthly life Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro, N.C.

Leon was born in Wayne County, N.C., Sept. 19, 1919, to the late Mr. Jonah Best and Mrs. Annie Howell Best.

He received his education in the public schools of Wayne County.

Mr. Best served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

He was married to the late Mrs. Edith Joyner Best for more than 40 years, and to that union one child was born, and she preceded him in death.

In 1996, he married Mrs. Annie McKinnie Chavis.

Brother Best was a member of Goldsboro Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, and served in many capacities.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at noon at Goldsboro Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 1314 Ben Brewington Court, Goldsboro, N.C. Elder James E. Collins will preside. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery, 2925 U.S. 117 South, Dudley, N.C.

A public viewing will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., from 2 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. to receive other family members and friends.

Mr. Best leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his wife, Mrs. Annie Chavis Best of Goldsboro, N.C.; his daughter, attorney Natarlin Best of Ayden, N.C.; his stepson, Anthony Chavis of Goldsboro, N.C.; their special pet, Trixie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

At other times, the family will receive friends and other family members at the home place, 105 S. Georgia Ave., Goldsboro, N.C.

Family and friends will assemble one hour prior at 10:50 a.m. at 105 S. Georgia Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., in preparation for the funeral procession.
