TUNK SUMMERLIN

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Linwood Earl "Tunk" Summerlin, 66, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 20, 2013, at Wayne Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Thomas Moore II, and followed by visitation. Burial will be Friday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at Summerlin Family Cemetery, N.C. 55 East, Seven Springs.

Friends and family may also call at the residence.

Tunk was the son of Harvey Lawton Summerlin and Effie Register Summerlin, both now deceased.

He had served in the North Carolina National Guard, had been a dry wall installer and had been a poultry farm truck driver. In recent weeks, he had fulfilled a dream as he founded Tunk's Barbecue Shack on the outskirts of Mount Olive.

He worshipped at Oak Ridge Church of God of Prophecy at Goldsboro.

He is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Donnie S. and the Rev. Thomas Moore of Clayton, Sally S. Whitfield Barnett and husband, Jay Barnett, of Dudley, Shelby S. and Donald Blizzard of Mount Olive, Kathy S. Davis of Burns, Ore., Harvey Ray and Barbara Summerlin of York, S.C., Jimmy and Kathy Summerlin of Mount Holly, N.C., and Johnny and Belinda Summerlin of Goldsboro; many nieces and nephews to include three special nephews whom he assisted in raising, Scott Summerlin and wife, Tammy, of Seven Springs, Tony Summerlin and wife, Brandi, of Arkansas and Scotty Summerlin and wife, Stephanie, of Beulaville; a dear cousin, Donald Summerlin of Seven Springs; and a large number of special and close friends.

He had a sister, Linda S. Carter, and a brother, Ronnie G. Summerlin, who preceded him in death.

The Summerlin family wishes to extend a note of gratitude to Dr. Kasbari and his team at S.M.O.C. for their outstanding care, support and concern, and to the fourth floor nursing and support staff at Wayne Hospital, the same.
