Aug. 4, 1938-July 30, 2013

Hardy Wellon Pittman, 74, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Wellon was born in Wayne County Aug. 4, 1938, to the late Willie and Lucy Rose Pittman.

He was the senior vice president with McArthur Properties in Goldsboro.

Wellon lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community.

He was a volunteer fireman with Saulston Volunteer Fire Department and a faithful member of Saulston United Methodist Church.

Wellon leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and support for his family and the community he cared about. He will always be remembered as a man with a loyal work ethic and willingness to help his fellowman. The best of Wellon will live on in each of us. His enthusiasm and charm will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Saulston United Methodist Church, followed by his funeral service at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Carolyn Sims officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange.

Wellon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Lassiter Pittman; daughter, Donna Pittman Quinn and husband, Scott, of Goldsboro; son, Brian "Beanie" Pittman and wife, Katina, of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Emilee Quinn Pilkington and husband, Thomas, Dylan Scott Quinn, Ethan Samuel Quinn, Henry William Pittman and Lucy Claire Pittman; and brothers, Elbert Pittman and Garlon Pittman and wife, Brenda, all of Goldsboro.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in his memory to Saulston United Methodist Church, 4620 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
