LINDA FLYTHE BAILEY

Feb. 23, 1951-July 24, 2013

Linda Flythe Bailey passed away on July 24, 2013, with her loving family by her side.

Linda was born in Staunton, Va., on Feb. 23, 1951, to the late Joan Fleshood Flythe and the late Harry B. "Sonny" Flythe. She was married to James P. Bailey (Phil) and recently they celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in June. Linda retired after 27 years of service as a historian, with the United States Air Force as a senior master sergeant. Linda's military career allowed her to travel the world. She treasured the time she spent in Europe and always spoke about the wonderful memories she made there. Linda's last assignment was at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, N.C.

Throughout her career and life, Linda's contributions were remarkable and distinct. She served in many positions abroad and was the epitome of an ambassador on behalf of the United States, her service and our family. From her service in Italy and Greece and here at home, she has tremendously left a monumental mark on not only the wonderful people she served with, but also the citizens of this world that she had the opportunity to spread her kindness the way that only she could. Her ability to participate, lead and guide our current and future men and women in this world has left a mark in life that will be hard to replace. Linda not only served her nation, but also gave everything she had for those that had not a penny to their name. Her heart devoted her to volunteering with medical facilities and providing the same smile and gift of hope with her heart, which is what is most special about her life story. As a wife, mother and grandmother, there is no replacement. She has taught, guided and supported all of us without complaint. Today and forever, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, niece, friend and patriot of this nation.

Linda is survived by her loving husband, Phil; her children, son Major Sean Miller of Twentynine Palms, Calif., and daughter, Lisa Michele Miller of Raleigh; her stepchildren, Jennifer Bailey Shelnutt and husband, Brian of Woodstock, Ga., Melissa Bailey Schultz and husband, Chris of Hill AFB, Utah, and Matthew Bailey of Woodstock, Ga.; an aunt, Joyce Ryder, and uncle, Bob Ryder of Fishersville, Va.; sister, Pamela A. Molz and husband, Michael of Coral Gables, Fla.; niece, Joanna Paige Molz Cressy and husband, Adam of Florida; nephew, Spencer Molz of Florida; great-nephews, Conner Cressy and Tyler Cressy; and great-niece Stella Cressy.
