ROBERT EUGENE GROBERSKI

Name

Aug. 26, 1946-July 8, 2013

Retired Technical Sgt. Robert Eugene Groberski, 66, went to walk with God July 8, 2013, following a lengthy illness. Robert passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at home.

Robert was born Aug. 26, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa.

He served his country honorably during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps. He then transferred to the United States Air Force, and retired after 22 years of service. Some of his fondest memories from the military were as a hydraulics instructor at Chanute Air Force Base, Ill.

He was a wonderful father and husband and an example to the many young people who gathered at our home with our children. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.

He also loved to help people with random acts of kindness, never asking anything in return. He found joy in helping animals that had been abandoned or abused and giving them homes filled with love. He was quick to help when friends or neighbors needed him.

He had an infectious sense of humor, and was always ready to help pull off the perfect prank. There were many who loved him, and our lives have been forever changed just knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Groberski; mother, Pauline Groberski; and brother, James Groberski.

He is survived by Janet Groberski, his wife of 34 years; his daughter, Cassandra of Parsons, Kan.; son, David and wife, Tara, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; son, Vincent and wife, Christine, of Ontario, Ore.; daughter, Linda and husband, Steve, of Goldsboro, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandson; his sister, Barbara Rose of Minnesota; sister, Mary Lou Groberski of Minnesota and brother, Mark Groberski of Minnesota.

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro with military honors.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4 to 4:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to 3HC, Kitty Askins or in his honor to Westwood United Methodist Church.
