MOUNT OLIVE -- Mr. George Battle Jr., 71, was lovingly known by his family and friends as "Jack," 696 Shephard Lane, Mount Olive, N.C., departed his earthly life Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C.
"Jack" was born in Wayne County, N.C., March 29, 1942, to the late Mr. James Persall and Mrs. Rosa Battle Persall.
He received his education in the public schools of Wayne County.
"Jack" was employed with and retired from Mt. Olive Pickle Co. in Mount Olive, N.C.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Mr. Harry Battle and Mrs. Nannie Battle; and a brother, Mr. Leroy Battle.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday, July 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home and Chapel, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C. Bishop Thurman McCullen will officiate.
A private disposition will be held at a later date.
Also, a public viewing will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013, at McIntyre Funeral Home and Chapel, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., from 2 to 6 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m. to receive other family members and friends.
Mr. Battle leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories a daughter, Janice Faison of Mount Olive, N.C.; a special niece, Brenda Martin; two sisters, Rosa Martin and Chris Leonard and husband, James; five brothers, Percy Battle of Mount Olive, N.C., Benjamin Martin of South Carolina, Robert E. Martin of Indiana, David Martin and wife, Olivia, of Dudley, N.C., and pastor Ricky Martin and wife, Evora of Dudley, N.C.; an uncle, Joseph Battle of Dunn, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
At other times, the family will receive friends and other family members at the home of pastor Ricky and sister Evora Martin, 370 Hopesway Drive, Dudley, N.C.
Also, the family will assemble Friday, July 12, 2013, at the residence of pastor Ricky and sister Evora Martin's residence, 370 Hopesway Drive, Dudley, N.C., an hour prior to the funeral at 9:55 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
