JOANN GURLEY SASSER DAVIS

JoAnn Gurley Sasser Davis, 76, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

JoAnn was born in Wayne County on Sept. 30, 1936, to the late David E. Gurley Sr. and Victoria Elizabeth Corbett Gurley.

She was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church and Alpha Circle. She was employed for many years as a licensed practical nurse by Dr. Patrick Sasser.

A service to celebrate JoAnn's life will be held Monday, April 29, 2013, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Bailey and the Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Park.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, James C. Davis Jr.; daughter, Marijo Tyndall and husband, Brent, of Goldsboro; son, Ted Sasser and wife, Lisa, of High Point; grandson, Trent Allen Tyndall; stepdaughters, Kim Lane and husband, Shane, of Fayetteville, Donna Phillips and husband, Jerry, of Goldsboro, Robin Hinton and husband, Curt, of Goldsboro, Joy Dean and husband, Alex, of Chesapeake, Va.; sisters, Dixie Frazelle of Richlands, and Mary Hill and husband, James, of Goldsboro; sisters-in-law, Jane Harper and husband, Bob, of Tarboro and Mavis Gurley; brother-in-law, Charles Mercer of Goldsboro; nine stepgrandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, T. Mack Sasser; sisters, Teresa Mercer and Laura Jamison; and brothers, David Gurley Jr. and William Harold Gurley.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.
