JAMES CHARLES BAILEY SR.

March 10, 1934-April 6, 2013

James Charles Bailey Sr., son of the late Mary Eliza and Ed Edward Bailey, was born in Johnston County, N.C., March 10, 1934. He departed this earthly life Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Goldsboro, with the Rev. Harold Caldwell officiating. Interment will be in Old Mill Cemetery.

A viewing will be held Friday one hour prior to the funeral at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends and family at the home of his daughter, Pamela Golphin, 1606 Tuskegee St., Goldsboro.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy "Numpy" Bailey; three brothers, William, Rufus and Albert Bailey; and a sister, Lucille Robinson.

James was educated in Johnston County Schools.

He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. His joy came from spending time with his family. He continued the legacy of providing a nurturing home for the family even after the passing of his wife.

His favorite pastimes included storytelling, fishing and spending time at the beach with family.

He was a former employee of Celotex Corp. for more than 20 years.

He was also a foster grandparent for the Wayne County School System.

James leaves to cherish his memories his children, Deborah White, Rodney (Debra) Bailey, Pamela (Robyn) Golphin, James (In) Bailey Jr. and Karen (Steffon) Knox; two sisters, Lila Mae Cates and Lenora Simms; and a brother-in-law, Gene Autry White.

He also leaves to cherish his memories 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives; and a special family friend, Patricia "Pumpkin" Dawson.

The professional, sympathetic, dignified and compassionate final care of James has been entrusted to J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremations.
