Walter Benton Edwards, 76, passed away Sunday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Leland and Essie Mae Reaves Edwards.

He attended Grace Baptist Church, had been a member of Goldsboro Rescue Squad and was a veteran of the National Guard.

He ran Walter Edwards Garage for many years, and later retired from Sears Auto Center.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery, with pastor James Frasher officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Walter William Edwards, 1631 Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill, N.C.

Mr. Edwards is survived by a son, Walter William Edwards of Snow Hill; a daughter, Anna Edwards Bryson of LaGrange; three grandchildren, David Paul Flowers, John Mark Flowers and Thad Bryson VI; and a special friend, Lillie Rose Price.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care of their father during his illness.
