EDWARD DOUGLAS SMITH

June 5, 1941-March 7, 2013

LEESVILLE, S.C. -- Edward Douglas "Doug" Smith, 71, passed away at Lexington Medical Center in Lexington, S.C., March 7, 2013.

A resident of Leesville, S.C., Mr. Smith was born in Grifton, N.C., June 5, 1941, and was the son of the late William Elmo and Sallie Dixon Smith.

He graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1960, attended East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., and was an Air Force veteran.

He retired in 2001 from DIMON Tobacco Co. in Farmville, N.C., after more than 20 years of employment in the tobacco industry.

A member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Goldsboro, he sang in the Men of Madison, an all-male touring choir.

Mr. Smith loved golf and most kinds of music, and was an avid reader. He particularly enjoyed staying in touch with friends and family on his computer.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Lynda Anderson Smith; sisters, Sara Frances (Mrs. A. C. Boyette) of Sisters, Ore., Mary Ann Drum of Knoxville, Tenn., and Martha Kay (Mrs. Charles Jones) of Raleigh, N.C.; five nieces; a nephew; and two great-nieces.

A visitation was held at Barr-Price Funeral Home in Leesville, S.C., Sunday, March 9.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at Willowdale Cemetery in Goldsboro.
