Christopher Thomas Scher, 45, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Chris was born in Huntington, Indiana on Jan. 3, 1968. He attended Purdue University and was a devout fan. Chris proudly served his country in the United States Air Force 916th Reserves where he was a unit safety officer. He served two deployments to the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm. Chris was also a member of the Little River Volunteer Fire Department. He trained and enjoyed playing the bagpipes but will be remembered for being an excellent cook, especially for his barbecuing.

A Rosary will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home followed by a time of visitation at the funeral home until 6 p.m. Graveside services with military honors will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Chris is survived by his wife, Cathy Berry Scher; children, Zachary Christopher Scher, Mikayla Mae Scher and Brett Allen Swain; father, Thomas E. Scher and wife, Mary of Sumter, S.C.; mother, Georgette Carmen Roth of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sister, Denise Ann Casanova of Switzerland; brothers, Charles Robert Scher of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Eric John Scher of Marion, Ind. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Earl Scher Jr.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the North Carolina Autism Society or the North Carolina Special Olympics.
