Laura Ercell Gurley Jamison passed away Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in the Saulston area of Wayne County to the late David E. Gurley Sr. and Elizabeth Corbett Gurley, Laura was married to the late James E. Jamison Jr.

After graduating from Atlantic Christian College, Laura went on to teach in public schools in Duplin and Wayne counties for 38 years.

She was a member of American Legion Post No. 11 Auxiliary, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, North Carolina Association of Educators and National Educator Association and a past member of ARWA.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with pastor Richard Glosson officiating. Committal will follow the service at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

She is survived by three sisters, Dixie G. Frazelle of Richlands and JoAnn S. Davis and Mary G. Hill both of Goldsboro, and two faithful friends, David Vucinich and Annie Reboli.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Mercer, and three brothers, William Harold Gurley, David Gurley Jr. and an infant twin brother, Ardell Gurley.
