ERNEST EDWIN WHARTON

BURLINGTON -- Ernest Edwin Wharton passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday in his Burlington home.
Ed lived in Goldsboro most of his adult life, and retired as a master sergeant from the United States Air Force in 1983.
He served as an active member of the Wayne County Republican Party, and was an avid supporter of the Wounded Warriors Project.
Ed was also a devoted member of Harvest Baptist Church.
Ed is survived by his wife Helen, and his three daughters and their husbands, Kim and Glenn, Sue and Robert and Jackie and Don.
He is also survived by two grandsons, Justin and Scott, and two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Ava.
Ed was expecting the birth of another great-grandson in April.
A private family service and burial was held in Mebane Friday.
A memorial service will be held in Ed's honor Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro. Full military honors will follow the service on the front lawn.
The family will greet friends Saturday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed's memory to either Harvest Baptist Church or the Wounded Warriors Project.
