Edward Paul Parnell, 86, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, Sept. 29, 2012, at the home of his daughter in Pikeville.

Mr. Parnell was born in Wayne County April 23, 1926, to the late Paul and Didy Parnell.

Mr. Parnell proudly served our community for 30 years as a lieutenant firefighter for the city of Goldsboro, and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

He worked for Generator Starter Service on Center Street more than 30 years. Presently, he was the oldest living fireman.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Frasher officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park with fireman honors.

Mr. Parnell is survived by his daughter, Judy Parnell Whitley of Pikeville; his son, Kenneth Parnell of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Lynn and Robby Jackson, Cindy Jackson-Baker, Melissa Sugg, Kevin Hilburn, Brad Hinnant and Jennifer Boatright; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Parnell is also survived by a special brother-in-law, Harold Woodard, who gave him special love and care during his illness.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 641/2 years, Jessie Woodard Parnell Jan. 24, 2010; his daughter, Brenda Hinnant; a son-in-law, Earl Whitley; his brother, Donald Parnell; and his sister, Ruth Parnell.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Judy Whitley, 303 N.W. Railroad St., Pikeville.
