Walter D. Letchworth, Jr. passed away on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Walter was born in Greene County on Oct. 6, 1919, to the late Walter D. Letchworth Sr. and Martha Jones Letchworth. He was a long-time member of First Free Will Baptist Church. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Air Forces for 21 years. Following his military career, he began working with Cobb Chevrolet and later retired.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Hollywood Cemetery in Farmville, with full military honors. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
Walter is survived by his sons, Roger A. Letchworth of Goldsboro and Steven B. Letchworth and wife, Athena, of Goldsboro; and his grandchildren, Brian, Matthew and Sara. He is also survived by his sisters, Doris Williams of Garner and Elsie Keel of Walstonburg; and his nieces, Peggy Dawson of Goldsboro and Donnie Caroon of Raleigh.
