CALYPSO -- John Gaston Howell Sr., 66, passed away Wednesday morning at his home at 103 W. Cameron St..
Friday, Aug. 31, a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Russ Evans and the Rev. Ken Powell, followed by visitation.
John was retired from the United States Navy, and he was retired from IMPulse NC, where he was an electrician.
He was a member of Peace Baptist Church in Calypso.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Harris Howell of the home; his mother, Elsie Cox Howell of Mount Olive; three sons, John G. Howell Jr. of Charlotte, Chris Howell and wife, Dora, of Denver, Colo., and Joseph Howell and fiancee', Tabitha Copeland, of Calypso; a brother, Edward Ray "Sonny" Howell Jr. of Hopewell, Va.; seven grandchildren, Rianna, Ashleigh, Justin, Austin, Allison, Evan and Andrew Howell; and a great-grandchild, Hayleigh Howell.
John's father, Edward Ray Howell Sr., preceded him in death, as did two brothers, Mark Steven Howell and Michael Richard Howell, and a sister, Candace H. Rivenbark.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Peace Baptist Church, P.O. Box 331, Calypso, N.C., 28325.
