CHARLES MASON SR.

DUDLEY -- Retired Tech. Sgt. Charles Mason Sr., 75, 102 Southern Plaza, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at his residence surrounded by family.

A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at 2 p.m. at White Oak Baptist Church, 1621 White Oak Church Road, Apex, with the Rev. Charles Tyner officiating.

Mr. Mason was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Wake County to John Henry Mason Sr. and Blanche Jones. He was married to the late Earlean Carrington Mason in 1968.

He served his country in the United States Air Force for 24 years as a flight crew chief.

He also faithfully served as a corrections officer, and retired from the North Carolina Department of Correction after 22 years.

Later on, he would work with Goldsboro youths as a YMCA Camp counselor and bus driver.

His volunteer service would also include dedicating his time to WAGES Meals on Wheels.

He was committed in his service to others, and maintained a stellar reputation of professionalism.

He was also a member of the Military Retiree's Club and Prince Hall Masons.

He forever will remain a beloved brother, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his children, Deborah (Herman) Foster of Goldsboro, Vianna L. (Leonard) Hightower of Lamarque, Texas, Charles S. Mason Jr. of Goldsboro, Carl E. (Christina) Mason Sr. of Washington, D.C., and LaShana C. (Eric) Mason of Charlotte.

Final dignified care has been entrusted to J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremations.
