Lila Howell Wells, 91, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at Hospice of Wake County in Raleigh with her daughter, Beverly, by her side.

Lila was born in Greene County Sept. 29, 1920, to the late Miles Johnnie Howell and Pattie Barrow Howell Ham. She was married to the late Leon Henry Wells, who preceded her in death April 20, 1985.

Lila lived a life of dedication to her family and friends, and to her community.

She served her community in several capacities, including working for the Wayne County Health Department for more than 36 years, volunteering at Wayne Memorial Hospital for more than 20 years and as a member of the Goldsboro Homemaker Extension Club, where she held many offices.

Lila was a longtime member of Fort Run Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. She was devoted to her church serving as treasurer for more than 30 years, member of the ladies auxiliary and the choir, and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.

Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at 7 p.m. at Fort Run Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Turlington and the Rev. Nannette Newcomb officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

Interment will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Lila is survived by her daughter, Beverly Wells Warren of Raleigh, formerly of Roxboro; her grandchildren, Blaine Reynolds Warren and wife, Leigh, and Meredith Warren Pawson and husband, Joel; her great-grandson, Tyler Edward Pawson; her sisters, Carol H. Clark of Snow Hill and Brooks H. Williams of LaGrange; and five nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Montague Howell, and sister, Grace Howell Potter.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County, the Child Welfare Fund at Person County Social Services or the charity of one's choice.
