ESTHER VICTORIA BASS

Mother Esther Victoria Reid Bass was born Dec. 4, 1918, to the late James and Bessie Daniel Reid in Wayne County.
To the union of her parents, nine children were born.
Eight siblings preceded her in death.
She was married to the late Eddie Mack Bass.
She was called home to be with the Lord Aug. 13, 2012.
She united with Darden Chapel Free Will Baptist Church under the leadership of the late pastor George T. Fitzpatrick, where she served faithfully. Mother Bass served as one of the mothers of the church for many years until her health began to fail. She loved her church family, and worked wherever she was needed, which included Sunday School, home mission, the Helping Hand Committee and treasurer. She also took care of the communion alter and pulpit linens of the church.
Mother Bass worked at different jobs during her lifetime. She worked in the domestic field for more than 50 years. She also worked at the Door Factory and J.P. Stevens.
Her other occupations included a cook, a seamstress, a health care technician and a counselor for family, friends and whoever needed help.
She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Nathaniel W. Reid of Dudley; a daughter, Carolyn (Jerome) Wooten of Goldsboro; four granddaughters, Esther C. (Ralph) Langford of Harvest, Ala., Genia (Terry) Taylor of Dudley, Jacqueline (Eugene) Hightower of Goldsboro and Audrey Barnes of New York, N.Y.; four grandsons, Gary Reid of Dudley, Nathaniel Reid of Dudley, Darryl Reid of Fayetteville and Jerome Wooten of Huntsville, Ala.; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Your loved ones will miss your presence here with us, but we know that God loved you and took you home to be with him. You fought a very good fight and kept the faith until the end. Sleep now, and take your rest for there is a crown waiting for you; your race has been ran; you made it to the finish line.
A visitation will be held today from 3 to 6 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, 401 N. William St., Goldsboro.
A celebration of life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Darden Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Following the services in the sanctuary, Ms. Bass' delicate temple, along with her adored family, will be escorted by E.M. Matthews' angelic white fleet to Wayne Memorial Park North for interment rites.
Ms. Bass and the Bass family are in the hallmark of care at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home.
