STUART N. EDWARDS

June 7, 1935-June 4, 2012

Stuart Newcome Edwards, 76, died Monday at Vidant Healthcare in Greenville.

He was born in Sampson County to the late Harvey W. Sr. and Ruby Aldridge Edwards.

A veteran with the United States Army, Stuart obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Atlantic Christian College, and furthered his education by obtaining his master's degree from Appalachian State University.

A retired school teacher, he taught in the Salisbury, Sunsbury, Eden and Goldsboro school systems.

A Presbyterian, he was a member of Wayne Masonic Lodge 112, and was the former owner of Edwards Framing and Art Studio.

Graveside services with Masonic Rites will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Steven Wicks officiating.

The family will be receiving friends immediately following the service at the graveside.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Harvey Jr. and Alice Edwards of Concord, Richard and Edith Edwards of Supply and David Edwards and Paul Edwards both of Goldsboro; and sisters, Marvis and Bill Byrd of New Bern, Janet Mitchell of Merritt Island, Fla., Catherine and Peter Zilliox of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Joan Hare of Leland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy H. Edwards.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wayne County Arts Council, 102 N. John St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
