GLADYS DEW HAYES

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Wednesday, March 7, Gladys Dew Hayes, longtime former resident of Goldsboro, transitioned home to heaven's glory. Mrs. Hayes, affectionately known as "Mother Hayes" and "Mama Hayes," was 103. She had been residing at Golden Living Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Born in Wilson to Marselius and Victoria Dew, Mother Hayes was married to the late Marvin Hayes Sr., the love of her life for more than 73 years.

Eleven children blessed this union, six of whom are still living.

The surviving children are Harold Hayes Sr. and Vivian Randleman of Philadelphia, Monte Hayes of Inglewood, Calif., Gerald Hayes of Wendell, David D. Hayes of Cary and Sandra F. Scott of Ocean View, Del.

Grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends also survive Mrs. Hayes.

A service in celebration of her life will be held at Mother Hayes' beloved church, Pentecostal Holy Church, 600 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, Wednesday, March 14, at 11 a.m. She will be interred at Wayne Memorial Park North, old Grantham Road.

Mother Hayes will lie in state Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, 2 to 6 p.m. She will also lie in state at the church Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Arrangements are handled by Hamilton Funeral Home.
