Ella Jean Smith, 64, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.

Ella was born in Wayne County Nov. 10, 1947, to the late LeRoy O'Neil Smith and Sally Blanche Carlyle Smith.

She worked for BellSouth in customer service for more than 32 years.

Ella grew up in Clingman Street Church of God, and was a member of United In Christ Church.

She was also a member of BellSouth Pioneers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. at United In Christ Church, with the Rev. Ira Williford and the Rev. Kenneth Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Ella is survived by her daughters, Delony Spraggins and husband, Jerry, and Ashton of Oxford and Heather Richards, Hayden and Dylan of Goldsboro; stepdaughter, Dawn Brady and husband, Andy, Tyler, Joey and Holly of Pensacola, Fla.; and two brothers, Dennis O'Neil Smith and wife, Kaye, and Bobby Roy Smith and wife, Angie.

She is also survived by many special nieces and a nephew, and great-nieces and a great-nephew.

She had a very special friend, Vicky Clay of Charlotte, and special caregiver, Bob Richards.

She leaves behind a wealth of special friends and church family of United In Christ Church, BellSouth and Food Lion.

In addition to her parents, aunts and uncles, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Lee Smith.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 2, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
