CENTREVILLE, Va. -- L.J. Benton Jr., 77, Centreville, Va., formerly of Fremont, died Jan. 25, 2012.
Funeral will be Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in the old section in Fremont with Masonic rites.
L.J. graduated from Fremont High School in 1952 and Atlantic Christian College (Barton) in 1956.
He taught school in Smithfield before relocating to northern Virginia, where he had a long career working in science education for Fairfax County public schools and The Smithsonian.
Surviving are his daughter, Patricia Benton Smith (William) of Centreville, and grandson, Jordan Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Rose Daughtry Benton, a native of Wayne County, and his parents, Leslie J. and Mary Butts Benton of Fremont.
