TULETA BEATON RHODD

LAGRANGE -- Tuleta Beaton Rhodd was born Nov. 28, 1919, to the late Elizabeth Williams and Louis Beaton in Wood-leigh, Claren-don, Jamai-ca, West Indies.
She was the first of four children. Tuleta was granted her wings, and departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at the Life Care Hospital in Rocky Mount in the presence of her family.
She lived in Kingston, Jamaica, where met and married James Arthur Rhodd, who preceded her in death in 1970. She bore seven children: Hyacinth, Norman, Noel, Lisa, Charles, Jerome and Rudolph.
Tuleta "Miss Mel" emigrated to the United States in 1966, where she worked for a family with young children.
She was a loving, caring and ambitious woman who dedicated her entire life to her children.
She obtained her certified nurse's aid (CNA) diploma and worked more than 30 years as a CNA at Hudson View Nursing Home in Yonkers, N.Y.
Tuleta was a strong and courageous woman. She spent her retirement years with her children living in Maryland, Arizona and North Carolina.
Tuleta obtained her United States citizenship July 4, 1997. She was blessed to have lived a long life for almost 92 years.
Tuleta leaves to cherish her memory children, Hyacinth of Arizona, Norman of North Carolina, Noel of New York, Lisa of North Carolina, Charles of Maryland, Jerome of New York and Rudolph of Connecticut and their spouses; sister, Druscella of Jamaica; brother, Abraham of Jamaica; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A service of remembrance will be held Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at 1 p.m. at E. M. Matthews Life Celebration Chapel.
A viewing will be held an hour prior to the service.
Following the services in the sanctuary, Ms. Rhodd's delicate temple, along with her adored family, will be escorted to Pinecrest Cemetery, 12830 U.S. 70 business west, Clayton, for interment rites.
Ms. Rhodd's earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Rhodd and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
