KENLY -- Gene "Giggy" Maurice Wiseman Jr., 56, Wiseman Lane, left these earthly bonds early Saturday morning, Nov. 12, 2011, surrounded by his devoted wife and family.
Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joseph Leonard officiating. Interment will be held Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro.
The family will greet friends Monday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at their home.
Gene, or Giggy as he was known to family and many lifelong friends, was born in Fairfax, Va., May 15, 1955, to the late Gaynell Warrick Wiseman and Gene M. Wiseman Sr.
He was a proud attendee of Goldsboro City Schools, and was a graduate of Wayne Community College, but his true calling was that of a sales professional. Experience in varied methods of direct contact sales led to him and his wife, Denise "Edna," forming Summit Productions Inc. in 1984.
Gene was the recipient of a successful liver transplant in 1994, and was once deeply involved with a support group with other organ recipients.
Although declining health kept him from being involved in much of the day-to-day operations of this business, he still maintained a presence in the fundraising field that will continue on through his wife, his family and his faithful staff, as his legacy.
In addition to Summit, he was a leader in bringing fresh prawn farms to Eastern North Carolina, and was a member and past president of the American Prawn Cooperative.
Gene loved his family, his friends and the dogs that have been a part of the household for many years.
He was a jokester and was a big fan of the Internet, be it for searching for new recipes, listening to music, reading jokes, following the stock market or keeping up to date on the political world.
When his health permitted, he loved to travel and experience new things and meet people. He was a man who could carry on a conversation about everything or about nothing with anyone.
Gene is survived by his loving and devoted wife, "Edna" Denise West Wiseman of the home; his son, Jason G. Wiseman and wife, Jennifer, of Kenly; his daughter, Jodi L. Wiseman of Dudley; his grandchildren, Ciera Pearce, Jay Wiseman, Gage Wiseman, Aaron Wiseman, Marshall Wiseman and Zariea (Lulu) Wiseman; his stepson, Tobey S. Blankinship of Maryland; grandsons, Jacob Blankinship and Michael Casey of the home; his sister, Glenda Cruse and husband, Morris, of Goldsboro; his brother, Douglas Wiseman and wife, Darlene, of Kenly; his sister-in-law, Gail West, also a caregiver, of Kenly; his brother-in-law, "Rupert" Cliff West and wife, "Rachel" Wanda, of Columbia, S.C.; his in-laws, Rupert and Faye West of Meigs, Ga.; as well as his nieces, nephews, aunts and numerous cousins and lifelong friends.
The family would like to express its thanks and appreciation for the assistance and care shown to Gene by the staff of the University of North Carolina Hospitals, Dr. Hal Woodall and his staff of Kenly and Community Home Care and Hospice, who helped his wife and sister-in-law with his care prior to his passing.
