SNOW HILL -- Vivian Joyner Vaughan Dobson, 91, 204 Hunters Trace, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 29, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

She was the daughter of the late Glenn Creech Hill and Wyatt Hercell Hill, born Jan. 31, 1920, in Greene County.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, A.H. Joyner Jr., Warren Vaughan and James Dobson; three grandchildren, Jonathan Richard Murphy Jr., Benjamin Glenn Mooring and Jennifer Hope Mooring; a brother, Troy Hercell Hill; and a stepdaughter, Lois Dobson Bennett.

Mrs. Dobson graduated from Hookerton high School in 1936, and married A.H. Joyner Jr. They lived in Greene County until his death in 1966.

In 1975, she married Warren Vaughan and moved to Goldsboro.

She worked with Kerr Drugs in Goldsboro, and retired at the age of 70.

After the death of her second husband, she married James Dobson, and following his death in 1998, she returned to Greene County.

She was a very active part of the Greene County Senior Center, where she enjoyed her friends and the activities, and was elected the Royal Court Valentine Queen in 2007.

Mrs. Dobson was a member of First Baptist Church of Snow Hill. Even while residing in Goldsboro, she attended and remained active at First Baptist Church, where she had been a member since 1954.

Mrs. Dobson is survived by her three daughters, Geraldine Joyner Murphy of Lake Royale, Linda Joyner Linton and husband, Edgar, of Rocky Mount and Gayla Joyner Tedder and husband, Christopher, of Snow Hill; a son, Gordon Hercell Joyner of Kinston; eight grandchildren, Edgar Linton Jr. of Altonna, Pa., Temesia Taylor Quinlan and husband, Charlie, of Pennsylvania, Vivian Linton Morgan of Wilson, Vernon Linton and wife, Patricia, of Wilson, Rhonda Murphy Moore and husband, Ed, of Elm City, Stephen Mooring and wife, Shannon, of Snow Hill, Brian Mooring and wife, Jennifer, of Mount Olive and Sharon Mooring of Raleigh.

Mrs. Dobson is also survived by a stepdaughter, Linda Dobson Edwards of Morganton; a granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Murphy of Lake Royale; 17 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Hill Street and husband, William, of Snow Hill; sisters-in-law, Maebelle Braxton Hill of Snow Hill and Doris Dobson Odom of Parkville, Md.; and a special caregiver, Lottie Andrews of Snow Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with the Rev. Dr. Gene Martin and the Rev. Rick Mondell officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Snow Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
