MOUNT OLIVE -- The Rev. George William Weaver, 78, went to his eternal reward Wednesday morning, Sept. 7, 2011.

Reared in Jones Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, where his father was the founding minister, he, himself, was a retired minister with the North Carolina Conference of Pentecostal Holiness Churches, having served for more than 40 years.

Funeral services will be held at First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Mount Olive Friday at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Brian Rogers, the Rev. Tim Strickland and bishop Jimmy Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow the service in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.

The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home.

The Rev. Weaver is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gladys Campbell Weaver; three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy W. and Glenn Rogers of LaGrange, Rebecca W. and Dewey Hardesty of New Bern and Vickie W. and William "Billie" Elliott of Greenville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha W. Davis and Shirley W. Strickland both of Mount Olive; six brothers, the Rev. Samuel L. Weaver of Goldsboro, the Rev. Jesse Weaver of Clayton, John Weaver of Newport, the Rev. Nick Weaver of South Carolina, the Rev. Jerry Weaver of Kentucky and the Rev. Paul Weaver of Mount Olive; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Fred J. and Lillie Mae Jones Weaver; two brothers, Fred Weaver Jr. and the Rev. Allen Weaver; and two sisters, Mary W. Jones and Bertha W. Hall.
