JOSEPH "EARL" KORNEGAY

Joseph "Earl" Kornegay, 73, passed away peacefully May 28, 2011, after a lengthy illness.

Earl was born Sept. 28, 1938, to the late Nelson and Mildred Corbett Kornegay.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lila Mae Pate Kornegay.

Earl was employed with T.A. Loving Co. for 37 years, and was a dedicated volunteer firefighter with Dudley Volunteer Fire Department, where he retired after 30 years. He developed great friendships and earned respect at both organizations.

Upon retiring, he enjoyed spending his mornings trading stories and shooting the breeze with the Bojangles' "Breakfast Bunch" in Warsaw.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Black Jack Free Will Baptist Church, with Pastor Pete Radford officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Family will greet friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times will be at the home of David H. Rouse, 245 Dogwood Drive, Warsaw, N.C., 28398.

Mr. Kornegay is survived by his loving wife, Lois Pate Kornegay, and they would have celebrated their ninth anniversary June 1. He is also survived by a brother, Albert Kornegay, and a daughter, Ann Aultman.

Earl was also blessed to be part of two large extended families, who will remember him with great love.
