CALYPSO -- Adrian J. "Fuzz" Davis, 85, 512 Northeast Center St., died late Tuesday at Wayne Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tyndall Funeral Home, with burial following in Calypso Cemetery to include military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and at the home at other times.
Mr. Davis had attended both Calypso Methodist and Bear Marsh Baptist Churches, and most of his employment years were with Calypso Plywood Co. and Georgia Pacific Corp., as well as brief stints with other establishments.
A former member of Calypso Fire Department, he was an avid fisherman and had won more than 19 trophies with membership in the Topsail Fishing Club.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, attaining the rank of technical sergeant. Wounded twice, he was captured at the Battle of the Bulge and was a German prisoner of war from Dec. 16, 1944, until May 1945 in the harshest of conditions. Upon the war's end, he was awarded two Purple Hearts.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lola Mae Sutton Davis of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, John A. "J.A." and Margaret Davis of Warrenton, Va.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis and wife, Ramona, of Singapore, Jonathan Davis and wife, Mary, of Jackson, Miss., and Jennifer D. Ellinger and husband, Cory, of Raleigh; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Herbert S. and Thelma Davis of Mount Olive; and several special nieces and nephews.
Those preceding him in death include his parents, Lee Roy and Maggie Johnson Davis; a sister, Ora Lee Merritt; and five brothers, Arnold, Elbert, Roy E. "Dolly," George, and Henderson Davis.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Calypso Fire Dept., c/o Roger Davis, P.O. Box 56, Calypso, N.C., 28325, or the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive Greensboro, N.C., 27407.
