Helen Gardner Gardner, 89, formerly of Nahunta and Patetown communities, passed away Tuesday.

A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late John and Rhoda Carter Gardner, and the widow of Ed Gardner.

She was a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, and a homemaker.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m., Thursday in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dock Hobbs and the Rev. Willard Hardison officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Friday in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Cotton officiating.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Edwina Rains and husband, Bill, of Lexington; her sons, Randy Gardner and wife, Vicky, of Hillsborough and Jon Gardner of Snow Hill; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Gardner of Princeton; her grandchildren, Chris and Neil Rains, Jill Shambley, Paul Gardner, Christie Gardner, Beth Braxton, Shannon Riddle and Lance Gardner; and her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Ben Braxton, Tucker and Lily Gardner, Maggie Ryan, Ethan and Emma Cox, Claire, Cooper and Kaitlyn Rains and Ed Gardner.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Gordon, Guy, and J.C. Gardner, and her sister, Ruby Dawson.

The family will receive friends following the service Thursday night at the funeral home.
