RETIRED MASTER SGT. JAMES H. WASHINGTON

Retired (Air Force) Master Sgt. James Heywood Washington, 69, of 1213 Porter St., passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.

Mr. Washington was born Aug. 12, 1941, to the late Gratehouse and Hattie Turner Washington. He was retired from the United States Air Force and retired from the United States Postal Service as an clerk on William Street.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Mary Washington; three daughters, Jennifer Ponder (Stephen) of Charlotte, Cynthia Brockington (Lindsey) of Goldsboro and Michelle Gonzalez of Miami, Fla.; four sisters, Bernice Temple (Theodore) of Richmond, Va., Dr. Shirley Washington of Maryland, Mary Ann Martin (Arnold) of Harrisonburg, Va. and Jean Clark (Ken) of Richmond, Va.; and three grandchildren, Emilio Gonzalez, Calvin Brockington and Bryce Ponder.

Viewing and visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. at Howell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
