MAURICE KREGAL

Dec. 22, 1920-Jan. 28, 2011

Maurice Kregal, 90, died in a local convalescence center on Jan. 28, 2011, after a brief illness.

No formal services will be held.

Maurice was born in Minnesota and grew up in Oregon. His parents were Benjamin and Rose Zeliakoff Kregal, both deceased, who immigrated to the United States from Russia around the turn of the last century. He is survived by one brother, Irving Kregal, of Oregon, and three cousins, Jesse Kregal, Joseph Kregal and Benjamin Bencisco.

Maurice loved the outdoors, especially fly fishing. He was a terrific musician, writer and pianist. In his early years, he was a writer for the Frank Sinatra radio shows and was an acquaintance of several stage and theatrical personages including Ira Gershwin and Chet Atkins.

Maurice was preceded in death by his good friend Lee Spivey Brown and by his sister, Anita Lowell. Many thanks are due to the staff at The Pines of Goldsboro where he resided for several years prior to his death and to his friend, Mark Daniels, who took Maurice on many fishing and boating ventures.
