PIKEVILLE -- James Chase Serlick, 26, was welcomed into Heaven Friday afternoon at Wake Forest University Medical Center surrounded by his family. After a courageous 18 month fight with leukemia, James finally found peace and joined family and friends in Heaven.
A service to celebrate the life of James will be held Monday at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Don Sauls officiating. Interment will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pikeville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday following the service and other times at his home, 105 Willowbrook Drive, Pikeville.
James was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and felt that nothing was impossible when you place your trust in God. His faith gave him the courage to face his battle with leukemia. He will be remembered as a fighter and James fought to the last minute. James' determination to let it be God's will was an inspiration to all who knew him.
He was born in Panama City, Fla. on Sept. 29, 1984, to Chris and Janay Serlick of Goldsboro. James was a 2003 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. He had also attended Wayne Community College to study law enforcement and graduated in 2005. After James completed his law enforcement degree, he became a police officer with the Goldsboro Police Department. He proudly served the citizens of Greater Goldsboro for five years. James was a man of many talents, from water sports to being an avid runner to the joy of riding his motorcycle. He was larger than life and every life he touched, he changed. Most important to James was his wife, Paige. They were married on Dec. 3, 2005. James worked so hard to make sure his wife was taken care of. James will be truly missed.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his sisters, Megan Vick and husband, Hunter, of Alpharetta, Ga., Christa O'Neil and husband, Shane, of Goldsboro and Fayth Serlick of Goldsboro; his brother, Chase Serlick of Goldsboro; his grandparents, Carolyn Serlick of Goldsboro and Tom Harris of Oregon; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty Jean and Kent Reeves of Pikeville; his brother-in-law, Travis Reeves of Pikeville; and three nieces.
With loving gratitude, we thank the doctors and nursing staff at Wake Forest University Medical Center as well as the incredible guidance, wisdom and support of the Goldsboro Police Department, our dear friends and the local community.
