MOUNT OLIVE -- Shelton B. Boyd, 93, died Thursday morning , Oct. 28, 2010, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
A service of remembrance will be held Monday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive (corner of East James and North Church streets), with the Rev. Elaine Swett and Dr. Dennis Draper officiating, followed by visitation at the church.
Mr. Boyd, a native of Sanford, was a 1938 graduate of University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy. He was a member of the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Association, and had been employed by several Mount Olive drug stores, including the former Clinic Drug Store, the former Boyd Drugs (in which he was a partner) and the former Glenn and Martin Drug Co.
He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive, and for more than 40 years, had been a member of the church's peanut crew.
He was an avid Tar Heel fan, and had served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie B. and Wayne Pearson of Clinton; a sister, Frances Homesley of Sanford; four grandchildren, Kelly Berdine and husband, Raimond Briceno, Emily Gray and husband, Tom, Matthew Pearson and wife, Ragan, and Kate Aycock and husband, Dan; and three great-grandchildren, Diego and Sofia Briceno, and Delaney Pearson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Tart Boyd, and a daughter, Mary Bevan Boyd Southerland.
