GORDON RAY JOHNSON

Gordon Ray Johnson, 74, passed away Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family.

A service to celebrate Gordon's life will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of New Hope Friends Church, with Bill Garner officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service in the Family Life Center.

Gordon was born in Wayne County Aug. 7, 1936, to the late Charles Albert Johnson and Cleo Best Johnson.

He owned and operated Johnson's Gun Works for 48 years, and had also worked for Carolina Power and Light Co. with 13 years of service.

Gordon was a member of New Hope Friends Church, where he sang in the choir for many years.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Edgerton Johnson of the home; his daughters, Barbara Kay Johnson of the home and Gwen J. Goodyear and husband, Scott, of Wilmington; his sons, Charles "Hal" Johnson and wife, Pam, of Goldsboro and Gordon Scott Johnson of the home; and his grandchildren, Brandy Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Amber Goodyear and Hannah Goodyear.
