VIRGINIA B. VARNELL

LaGRANGE -- Virginia Baker "Dink" Varnell, 87, of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at her home.

A service of remembrance will be held Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Stacy officiating. Interment will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

She was a daughter of the late Jack and Lura Ellis Baker. Mrs. Varnell was wife of the late L. Paul Varnell. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Jacqueline Varnell and Marie Tyer; two sisters, Ruby Gray and Lillian Carawan; and a brother, Dick Baker. A lifelong homemaker, Mrs. Varnell enjoyed cooking and sewing for her family.

Mrs. Varnell is survived by three children, Jannie Holloman of Walstonburg, Bob Varnell and wife, Ruth Ellen of LaGrange, Paula Herring and husband, Chubby of LaGrange; sister, Hazel Baker of LaGrange; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends Monday following the service of remembrance and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Mrs. Varnell's caregivers, Julia Thompson, Ellen Carlyle and Shirley Jones; her Hospice Nurse, Chuck Skelton, along with the staff of 3HC and Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their love and compassionate care. Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, LaGrange.
