RUTH W. WESTBROOK

Ruth Worley Westbrook, 83, passed away Saturday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

A service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held today at 4 p.m. at Pine Forest United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vann Spivey officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall and other times at the home of Susan and Michael Kornegay, 533 Luby Smith Road, Princeton. Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Princeton Cemetery.

Ruth was born in Wayne County to Addie Corena Williamson Worley Holt and George Dewitt Worley on Sept. 8, 1926. She graduated from Rosewood High School and attended East Carolina Teachers College. Ruth also attended Kings Business College in Raleigh.

In 1954, Ruth married Seth David Westbrook and later moved to Rosewood where they lived for the next 56 years. She was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Ruth was a life-long member of the United Methodist Women. She worked at Cherry Hospital before marrying, where she served as the secretary to the superintendent. Ruth also lived on the grounds of Cherry Hospital where she enjoyed her life in the staff house.

Ruth's favorite role was being a homemaker for her husband and daughter. She loved to cook and loved her family with many delicious dinners which always included a special dessert. Ruth also enjoyed the Rosewood Extension Homemakers Club. She served in many capacities but really loved the friendships and fellowship the club nurtured.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Michael Rex Kornegay of Goldsboro; and her granddaughters, Rachael and Charlotte. Ruth also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Rose Worley and Audrey Worley of Princeton, and Edna Westbrook of Grantham, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, G.B. and Dorothy Westbrook of Grantham; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Seth Westbrook; her brothers, Earl Worley, Wilton Worley and Ray Worley; her sister, Cleo Worley Johnson; and her stepfather, John R. Holt.
