JESSIE W. STONE

Jessie Worrell Lewis Stone, 86, of 109 Vance Drive, passed away Sunday evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred Crank officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. Stone was born Feb. 22, 1924, in the Hood Swamp area of Wayne County to the late Jim Berry Worrell and Lilla Butts Worrell.
She was a member of the first graduating class of New Hope High School in 1941.
She worked at Dupont in Kinston for 17 years, and was a charter member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Stone enjoyed her role as a homemaker, and was a member of the New Hope Club of the Wayne County Extension and Community Association for many years.
Her hands stayed busy cooking delicious meals for her family, growing beautiful flowers in her yard or sewing, which was her greatest passion. Her quilts won many blue ribbons in the quilt shows. She made dolls and dressed them to match her own dresses. She was a meticulous seamstress.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her two husbands, George H. "Tom" Lewis and James P. "Jim" Stone; eight sisters; three brothers; a daughter-in-law; Mildred D. Lewis; and a grandson, Joseph Raynor.
Mrs. Stone is survived by two sons, George H. Lewis Jr. and Roger Lewis and wife, Ruby, all of Goldsboro; two daughters, Iris Stone Swanick and husband, Dennis, of Huntersville, N.C., and Marsha Stone Phillips and husband, David, of Greensboro.
She has four grandsons, George Chad Lewis and wife, Donna, Jason Lewis and wife, Holly, Stephen Swanick and Travis Brinson and wife, Laurie; two granddaughters, Chanda L. Newsome and husband, Paul, and Cindy L. Price and husband, Josh; and five great-grandchildren, Hunter Jones, Nick Lewis, Abi Lewis, Lexton Lewis and Scarlett Brinson.
Two sisters survive Mrs. Stone, Maude W. Gurley of Goldsboro and Annette W. Smith and husband, James, of Goldsboro.
The family will receive friends following the service of remembrance, and at other times will be at the home.
