CYNTHIA GAYE ODUM CARTER
May 9, 1957 - April 24, 2010
Cynthia Gaye Odum Carter, 52, of Clinton, passed away peacefully at home Saturday surrounded by her family after a two-year courageous fight against cancer. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held today at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Jimmy Flowers and Madeline Odom officiating.
Cindy was born in Cumberland County to the late Sam and Norma Jones Odum of Fremont. She graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School and Wayne Community College. She worked in various office positions before deciding to be full-time homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, and her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Neil Carter Jr., of Clinton; Susan Odum, sister, of Goldsboro; Robert C. Odum, brother, of Fremont; R. Gary and Joni Odum, brother and sister-in-law, of San Clemente, Calif.; Krisha L. James, daughter, of Clinton; Joseph and Jackie Carter, stepson and daughter-in-law, of Newport News, Va.; Melissa Carter, stepdaughter, of Aurora, Colo.; Elizabeth and Wayne Watts, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, of Clinton; Christine Matthews, sister-in-law, of Clinton; Wilbert Burtus (Buddy) and Cita Carter, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, of Clinton; Willie and Charlotte Carter, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, of Clinton; Ken and Lettie Ann Fields, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, of Atlanta; Charlotte and Brody Elston, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, of Atlanta; and Karen and Howard Slayer, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, of Wilmington. Grandchildren are Alexander Blake Emanuel, Tyler Paxton Emanuel, Julius Devin Muth, Emily Neal Muth and Joseph Neil Carter III.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Southeastern Medical Oncology, Sampson Radiology Oncology and Home Health and Hospice of Sampson County for the wonderful care she received.
The family will receive visitors following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cynthia Odum Carter Memorial Fund, c/o Branch Banking and Trust Co.
