Edward Anthony Gawlak, 86, died Monday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, with father Tom Norris, O.S.F.S., presiding. Burial with military honors will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late Andrew and Francis Gawlak.
Retired from the United States Air Force, he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Wilbur's Men's Prayer Breakfast group and enjoyed his association with Goldsboro Lions Club.
Mr. Gawlak is survived by his wife, Ruth F. Gawlak; his children, Frances G. and I.V. Thompson of Tarboro, David and Lisa Harris of Goldsboro, Anita and Jimmy Martin of Goldsboro and Elizabeth G. and Andrew Overman of Greenville,; his grandchildren, Margaret Ann Page, Stephen Brian Thompson, Josh Harris, Cody Harris, Andrew Martin, Jenna Martin, Cameron Martin, Justin Overman and Nicole Overman; and four great-grandchildren, Evelyn Claire Thompson, Pierce Thompson Page, Kolby Harris and Will Harris.
Family members will greet friends Thursday prior to the funeral service from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.
