HAMMOND, La. -- Nannie Hurt Combs, 104, died Saturday in Live Oak Village.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wayne Memorial Park, U.S. 117 South in Dudley, with Bill Garner officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

A native of Kentucky, Mrs. Combs spent the greater part of her life in Lewisburg, W.Va., as the wife of a dairy farmer and as a school teacher.

After retirement, the couple moved to Goldsboro, where they were members of the New Hope Friends Church.

Her husband having died, Mrs. Combs moved in 2003 to the Hammond area to be near her daughter. She led a long, useful life and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sister, Nelle Boyd of Pasadena, Calif.; two children, Sue Parrill of Hammond and David A. Combs of Henderson; two grandchildren, Stephen Parrill of Hammond and David A. Combs Jr., of Clarksville, Va.; and her four grandchildren, Haley Marie Parrill, Emily Anne Parrill and Marie Adele Parrill of Hammond and Kaitlin Combs of Clarksville, Va.

Mrs. Combs was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Combs; her brother, Fred Raymond Hurt; and two sisters, Maude Redd and Pearl Amos.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the New Hope Friends Church, 4451 U.S. 70 east in Goldsboro.
