PIKEVILLE -- Gordon E. Carter, 88, 200 E. Pope St., died this morning at Wilson Medical Center.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Carter will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Seymour Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pikeville Cemetery.
He was the son of the late Emmitt and Hepsie Smith Carter.
Mr. Carter was a member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
He worked for Garris Grocery Store, Vail Hardware Store and most recently with Pikeville Auto Parts in Pikeville.
He was a retired volunteer fireman with Pikeville-Pleasant Grove Fire Department and was a World War II Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Mumford Carter; son, Danny Carter and wife, Jennette, of Pikeville; and a brother, Emmitt Carter of Goldsboro.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and will be at the residence at other times.
