GUY W. HERRING JR.

SNOW HILL -- Mr. Guy Walter Herring Jr., 67, passed away Tuesday morning at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston. A native of Carteret County, he was born Feb. 14, 1942, the son of Guy Walter and Audrey Long Herring. G.W. retired from E.I. DuPont in 2000 with more than 33 years of service. He was an avid sports fan and outdoorsman who loved trout and flounder fishing. A loving and devoted father, he truly centered his life around his daughters and was their greatest fan from their many sporting events and activities in school to their current careers and pursuits.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Gethsemane Memorial Park, N.C. 24, Morehead City.

Mr. Herring is survived by his beloved daughters, Dalen Herring of Winterville and Dawn Herring of Snow Hill; former wife and dear friend, Brenda Lamm Herring of Seven Springs; special friend, Carolyn Carroll of Snow Hill and her family of whom he dearly cherished; a sister, Judith Herring of Newport; a niece, Keren Kay Condon of Newport; nephews, Jimmy "Little Jimmy" Herring of Newport and Guy Eric "Porky" Herring of Tenn.; and two "grand-dogs" Tigger and Nugget.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Herring was preceded in death by a brother, James Edward "Jimmy" Herring who was also of Newport.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Thursday evening and other times at the residence, 35 Greenacres Road, Snow Hill.

Arrangements are being handled by Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service.
