Heidi B. Hamm, 78, passed away Monday afternoon at her home surrounded by her family, after a two-year battle with colon cancer.

A service to remember Heidi will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Heidi was born in East Germany April 21, 1931, to the late Joseph and Emma Born.

She came to the United States in 1959 after marrying United States Army medic Donald Ray Hamm, and was sworn in as a United States citizen in Austin, Texas.

Heidi came to Goldsboro in the late 1960's and was employed in various occupations to include McDonald's on Ash Street for more than 20 years. She was employed at Waukesha as a security guard, as a German language interpreter in Wilson and at K&W Cafeteria in Berkeley Mall for more than 20 years.

She became a loved and valued personality in the Goldsboro community.

Heidi attended First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro.

Heidi is survived by her daughters, Monica Hamm of San Francisco Bay area and Peggy Hamm Morris of Tampa, Fla., and her sons, Joseph Hamm and Donald Hamm both of Goldsboro.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ennis Hamm, who passed in 1973.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Heidi's memory to help with expenses incurred during her sickness, in care of Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends Wednesday at Seymour Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.
