MOUNT OLIVE -- Scarlet Whaley Summerlin, 69, 414 W. Williamson St., died Sunday evening at home.

Wednesday at 2 p.m., funeral services will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. James Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

Mrs. Summerlin, a homemaker and a Duplin County native, was retired from having been employed at several area sewing factories.

She was a member of Mount Olive Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Levy Summerlin of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jeffrey Mercer, and a very special grandson, Jesse Mercer, all of Beulaville; a brother and sister-in-law, Jacob and Gladys Whaley of Warrenton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Brenda Whaley and Pennie Sue and David Huff all of Henderson; several nieces and nephews; and her Summerlin in-laws and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Verie Taylor Whaley; sisters, Doris Whaley, Athalee W. Southerland and husband, Ben, and Edna Rae W. Summerlin and husband, Larry; and her mother-in-law, Lillie Mae Summerlin.

The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home from 7 to 9 and at other times at the residence.
