Betty Lou Hartley Braden, 85, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Adam Seate officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Betty was born in Johnston County Nov. 12, 1923, to the late Jessie Compton Hartley and Sallie Daughtry Hartley.

She had worked with Branch Banking and Trust Company for 35 years and retired as head teller.

Betty was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Betty is survived by her husband, Burl Braden; her daughter, Sheila Thompson and husband, James, of Goldsboro; her son, Jerry Bean and wife, Donna, of Goldsboro; her sister, Letty Taylor and husband, Sonny, of Pikeville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Stephen Troy Bean; her sisters, Sadie Godwin and Irene Godwin; and her brothers, Arthur Hartley, Jake Hartley, Sam Hartley and George Hartley.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home, 2006 E. Mulberry St. in Goldsboro.
